DAVIDE PRETE

Statement

I am a sculptor with a background in architecture and over 15 years of experience in public art. I studied Architecture in Venice and earned a Master of Arts in Sculpture in St. Louis, MO, along with certifications in digital fabrication from FabAcademy and MIT. My practice blends traditional techniques with digital tools, and I work closely with engineers and collaborators on every phase—design, permitting, fabrication, and installation.

My public sculptures are site-specific, reflecting local history, culture, and identity. Geometry, materials, and structural integrity are essential to my design process, which is always developed in collaboration with communities and stakeholders. My goal is to create meaningful, engaging artworks that enrich cities and foster public interaction with art in daily life.

Notable commissions include Freedom to Read (Washington DC), Soundwave Art Park (DC), Blooming Life (Frederick, MD), and Solar Flare (Riverdale Park, MD). I work primarily with metals like stainless steel and COR-TEN for durability, contrast, and sustainability. Concepts often draw from myth, history, or natural forms, as in Icarus, Light and Shadow, and Fontana. With strong design, fabrication, and community engagement, my work contributes lasting, cultural value to the public realm.
