Jennifer seeks to explore the fundamental parts that make us human through memory and comfort. She finds these through swimming. Swimming, a comfort disguised as exercise brings back memories of childhood; happiness and days where stress wasn’t a word in her vocabulary. Most of Jennifer’s ‘swimmers’ are alone on the shore or partially submerged in water. She is reminded of the comfort of being caressed and enveloped by water through stitching it. Her women are illustrated in greyscale, emphasizing they could be any woman.
Jennifer’s practice is interdisciplinary, and she finds herself continually returning to stitching, weaving, and painting. She learned to embroider as a child and finds it has become a multi-sensory experience through touch, as well as, sensing the passage of time with completed stitches.
