This portrait is part of a new set of paintings I am working on that explore post humanism in portraits: how can can a subject be depicted indirectly, integrated into the paintings form, or diffused throughout the painting. With this painting I wanted to explore several different ideas. Displacing the subject to the left corner and then having the object of her gaze in the top right corner pulls one's eyes across the painting. Between the subject and the photographed landscape there is a blackboard of drawings, as if her stream of conciseness is appearing. I wanted these obviously flat drawings to have more depth than the painting subject and the wall which only have two rather flat planes. This painting consists of multiple images, and depicts a woman looking at images, it is completed by the viewer, who in turn observes this image.
